The Store at Okanagan Centre
Dive Site Description
Located just passed Okanagan Landing on Old Okanagan Road, “The Store” offers a little variety to the infamous “blue trap”. The site is characterized by the quant old fashioned general store across the street from the beach access area. Parking is limited, and equipment has to be carried down a small, but step hill. The beach itself is partially shaded by trees and frequented by afternoon strollers in the summer months, so it’s important to keep gear tidy as a courtesy to other beach users.
From the shore you’ll spot a red-orange mooring ball. If you swim out and descend straight down along the line, you should hit the bottom at about 40 feet. To the left of the line should be a bright red bell big enough to accommodate three to four divers inside. The bottom composition is rather silty, so good buoyancy control is an important factor of enjoying the dive. Coming back in, there are some pilings between 17 to 15 feet on the right side of the bell. This also works out well for a swimming 15 foot safety stop.
