Below the surface of British Columbia's lakes, rivers and coastal waters lies a fascinating history. Ships, boats, villages and even a campsite covered by a rising ocean almost 10,000 years ago, provide a rich variety of sites for the underwater archaeologist.

Since 1975, the UASBC, a non-profit group of divers and non-divers, has systematically worked to identify, locate, survey and protect many of these historic resources for the benefit of future generations.

Divers and non-divers are invited to Explore BC's underwater heritage with the UASBC.

Providing information on species and ecosystems at risk

The British Columbia Conservation Data Centre (CDC) systematically collects and disseminates information on plants, animals and ecosystems (ecological communities) at risk in British Columbia.

This information is compiled and maintained in a computerized database which provides a centralized and scientific source of information on the status, locations and level of protection of these organisms and ecosystems.

The CDC is part of the Environmental Stewardship Division in the B.C. Ministry of Environment. It is also part of NatureServe, an international organization of cooperating Conservation Data Centres and Natural Heritage Programs all using the same methodology to gather and exchange information on the threatened elements of biodiversity.
